Don't Give Up

Lenise's link to a very good article puts much into perspective. Pope John Paul II is back in the hospital today, and who knows what will happen. Many have said that he should resign. However, I take to heart what the Pope said in response to enquiries as to whether he would considering stepping down: "Did Christ step down from the cross?" His life is a testament to us that we should not give up even in the face of suffering; Christ and love are there to see us through even the darkest times.

The Innies and Outties of Pregnancy

My bellybutton, which used to be a rather deep innie, has converted into a full-fledged outtie. I feel like one of those Butterball turkeys with a pop-out timer: I think I'm done - stick a fork in me.

As much as I feel like I should be done, Baby Cook still has about 2.5 months of baking to do in the proverbial oven.

P.S. The second glucose test came out normally! I can have sweets again!

Round Two of Glucose Testing

I flunked my initial glucose screening test last week. I've rarely flunked any test in my life, so you can imagine how disappointed I was. At least they allow you a make-up exam. So I had to go in to my doctor' office at 9Am today after having fasted from midnight last night on, immediately having some blood drawn, then drinking a glucose solution that contains twice as much glucose as the stuff I had to drink last week (blech!!), waiting an hour and having more blood drawn, waiting another hour and having more blood drawn, and waiting another hour and having more blood drawn. I feel like a pincushion and look a bit like a heroin addict. I just hope the test comes back negative, in which case I'm going to celebrate by having a cupcake or something else with sugar in it because I've been avoiding anything sugary for the last several days. This avoidance of sugar was particularly not fun when Josh and I had to skip the chocolate fondue last night when we went out for our Valentine's dinner at a fondue restaurant. If the test comes back negative, we'll have to go back just for dessert. If it comes back positive, I guess we'll have to wait until after Baby Cook makes his appearance.

The Family Bed....

....has already come to pass in our house. For the past few nights, our bed has contained me, Baby Cook (in utero, of course), Josh, and both the cats. It's been rather amusing if somewhat crowded!

Extremities

Last night, for the first time, I was able to feel a little extremity poking and moving around through my abdominal wall. I don't know which extremity it was, though, hand, foot, elbow, etc. I'd felt little pokings before, but this time it was really moving around, not just little pokes; this actually made my belly move! Josh felt it, too, and was so excited!

Tomorrow I go in for my gestational diabetes test, and I'll have to drink what I've been told is some rather nasty-tasting glucose concoction. Cheers!
